♊ Antiscia

Antiscions show points symmetrical to planets relative to the solstice axis and reveal connections absent in the standard aspect grid.

Overview

Mirror points of planets along the Cancer-Capricorn axis and contra-antiscia - hidden connections and symmetries.

Antiscia Calculation

Antiscion is a mirror reflection of a planet relative to the solstice axis, i.e., the 0° Cancer and 0° Capricorn lines. The formula is simple: the longitude of the antiscion equals 180° minus the planet’s longitude. A planet at 10° Aries produces an antiscion at 20° Virgo.

The contra-antiscion reflects a planet relative to the equinoctial axis, the 0° Aries and 0° Libra line, and is calculated as 360° minus the longitude. The same planet at 10° Aries gives a contra-antiscion at 20° Pisces.

  • Aries mirrors Virgo, Taurus mirrors Leo, Gemini mirrors Cancer.
  • Libra reflects in Pisces, Scorpio in Aquarius, Sagittarius in Capricorn.
  • Counterantiscion is always opposite antiscion, 180 degrees apart.

Conjunction in antiscia

Two planets, one of which is at the antiscion of the other, behave like a hidden conjunction. The connection exists and functions, but it is not visible in a standard aspect table because, by longitude, the planets may be in unrelated signs without any classical aspect.

The logic of symmetry here is the same as in solstices: points equidistant from the axis receive the same day length. Therefore, tradition considers such planets to be linked by a common theme, even when there is no aspect between them.

Orbs and Practice

The orb for antiscia is taken as narrow, from 1 to 2 degrees. A wider orb devalues the technique: with an orb of 5 degrees, the chart will contain several random coincidences, and the signal dissolves into noise.

In horary astrology, Lilly used antiscia as additional evidence when primary significators did not provide a clear answer. In a natal chart, antiscia are examined when an important theme in the chart is not manifested through conventional aspects.

Tool Insights

The calculator computes antiscia and contra-antiscia for all planets in the chart, checks their aspects to natal positions and angles, and displays the orb for each aspect. Mirror points are shown in both the table and the chart wheel.

The technique also works in synastry: the antiscia of one person's planet on another's planet creates the same hidden connection that would not appear in a standard cross-aspect table.
