Firdaria Structure

Firdaria is a Persian system that divides life into planetary periods in the Chaldean order. A daytime birth begins the cycle with the Sun, a nighttime birth with the Moon, and the periods follow in an unchanging sequence.

Fixed durations: Sun 10 years, Venus 8, Mercury 13, Moon 9, Saturn 11, Jupiter 12, Mars 7, then North Node 3 years and South Node 2. Total is 75 years, after which the cycle begins again.

Key periods and why they matter

Each major period is divided into seven equal subperiods, and the first always belongs to the ruler of the period itself. Jupiter’s 12-year period yields subperiods of about 1 year and 7 months.

In practice, the sub-period explains the change in tone within a long strip. Saturn’s period can be entirely favorable if its sub-period is led by Venus or Jupiter, and conversely, in Jupiter’s generous period, a Mars sub-period brings a year of conflict.

How to Read the Period

Focus on the planet's position in your chart, not the planet itself. For someone with a strong Mars in the 10th house, Mars' period brings years of career breakthroughs. For someone with a challenged Mars in the 6th house, it brings years of exhaustion and injury.

Firdar work well in pairs with transits: the period names the theme and the ruler, the transit gives the date. On their own, they are too broad to plan specific actions.
