Overview

Synastry in AstroWay allows you to compare any two charts - whether for relationship compatibility, business partnerships, or any interpersonal dynamic. The comparison module provides: - Bi-wheel chart showing both sets of planets - Inter-chart aspect table with orbs - Planet placement in partner's houses - Side-by-side and overlay view modes

Chart Comparison

The bi-wheel view places both charts concentrically: - Inner ring: natal chart (Person A) - Outer ring: compared chart (Person B) - Aspect lines drawn between both charts Separate synastry orb settings let you control aspect sensitivity independently from natal chart orbs. View applying and separating aspects with exact orb values.

Composite & Davison

Two methods for deriving a relationship chart: - Composite chart - midpoints of corresponding planets - Davison chart - midpoint in time and space between two birth events Both produce a single chart representing the relationship itself, with full aspect analysis and house placement.

Interpretations

Access interpretation texts for inter-chart aspects from multiple author collections. Filter by aspect type, planet pair, or author to find the most relevant reading for your analysis. Export complete synastry reports to PDF or DOCX with both charts, aspect tables, and interpretation texts.

Visualization

Choose how to view the comparison: - Overlay mode - both charts on a single wheel - Side by side - two separate wheels for easy reference All views are interactive - hover over aspect lines for details, click planets for interpretations. Export the bi-wheel as a high-resolution PNG image.

Synastry

Synastry compares two natal charts directly: one person's planets are overlaid onto the other's chart, and the aspects formed between them and the houses they fall into are examined.

The key difference from the composite is that in synastry the direction is visible. It is always clear whose Mars is affecting whose Venus, so you can talk about each person's contribution rather than the pair as a whole.

  • Aspects between planets of two charts
  • Partner's houses
  • The direction of influence is always determined.

House overlays

The most revealing part of synastry is not the aspects, but which houses the partner's planets fall into. A planet in the 1st house affects self-perception, in the 7th it creates a sense of partnership, and in the 12th it remains unexpressed.

Asymmetrical overlay: your Saturn may be in their 4th house, while their Saturn is in your 10th. These are different stories and should be read separately.

  • 1st House: Influence on Self-Image
  • 4th and 10th: Home and Public Role
  • 7th: direct sense of partnership
  • Asymmetrical overlay, each direction read separately

Key Aspects

Priority is given to aspects between the luminaries and personal planets: Sun, Moon, Venus, Mars. Aspects between the outer planets of two people from the same generation are identical in 1,000,000 pairs and say nothing about the specific relationship.

Saturn is considered separately: its aspects indicate duration and obligations, but also limitations. A relationship with no contact to Saturn is rarely long-lasting, while a relationship solely involving Saturn is rarely easy.

  • Sun and Moon of two charts as the foundation of compatibility
  • Venus and Mars for attraction
  • Saturn for duration and boundaries
  • Outer-planet aspects between peers are of limited informational value.

Tension Doesn't Mean Incompatibility

Venus square Mars in synastry creates attraction with friction rather than a verdict. Synastry with no tense aspects often indicates a lack of dynamics rather than perfect relationships.

Practically assess balance: whether there are supportive contacts alongside tension, and whether tension touches key points of the chart or peripheral planets.

  • A tense aspect describes the work theme, not the gap.
  • Complete lack of tension often means sluggishness
  • Affects which specific chart points are under tension

Astrological compatibility limits

Synastry does not calculate a percentage of compatibility. Any number in such assessments is based on arbitrary weights of aspects, and different apps will produce different numbers for the same charts.

It also does not predict whether people will be together. It describes the mechanics of interaction on the condition that interaction exists, and the decision remains with the people.

  • Compatibility percentage has no methodological basis.
  • Accurate birth time for both is required for house calculations.
  • Composite chart or Davison chart required for pair forecast.
