What is Human Design
Human Design is a modern self-knowledge system that combines Western astrology, the Chinese I Ching, Kabbalah, the chakra system, and quantum physics. Created by Ra Uru Hu in 1987, it gives you a personal blueprint of how your body and energy interact with the world. The calculation builds a bodygraph of 9 centers, 36 channels, and 64 gates that defines your Type (Generator, Manifesting Generator, Projector, Manifestor, or Reflector), your decision-making Strategy, your inner Authority, and your Profile.
How we calculate it
Planet positions accuracy: ±1 arcsecond. We use Swiss Ephemeris (the recognized standard in astronomical computations) directly in your browser, without sending birth data to a server. The calculation uses the date, time, and place of your birth and computes the Design (subconscious side, built on the 88° solar arc before birth) and the Personality (conscious side). It identifies activated gates and channels, determines defined vs. undefined centers, and calculates the incarnation cross.

Do I need an exact birth time?
Yes - exact time is critical for Human Design. Profile, Sun gate, incarnation cross, and inner Authority can shift even with a 5-minute difference. If exact time is unknown, we recommend rectification based on known life events.
How is Human Design different from astrology?
Human Design is a synthesis: Western astrology provides the planetary base, but it adds the 64 hexagrams of I Ching (gates), the chakra system (centers), and the Kabbalistic Tree of Life (structure). Instead of 12 zodiac signs, you get 64 gates. Instead of 12 houses, 9 energy centers. The approach is practical: not 'what will happen' but 'how to live according to your nature.'

What a bodygraph is made of
A bodygraph comes from two calculations. The first is made for the moment of birth, the second for the point roughly 88 degrees of solar movement earlier, about three months before. The first gives the conscious side, the second the unconscious one, and together they fill in a diagram of nine centres.
Planetary positions translate into 64 gates, gates join into 36 channels, and the channels decide which centres become defined. That set of defined centres is what produces the type, the strategy and the authority.

Why birth time is critical here
Every gate splits into six lines. The Sun crosses one line in roughly a day, so a small error in time rarely moves the profile. The Moon, however, changes gates every ten hours, and an error of a few hours can remove or add a channel, and with it a defined centre.
That is why a birth certificate beats a relative's memory in Human Design: a single channel decides the type, and the type decides the whole strategy. Without an exact time, run several versions and see across which range the picture stays stable.
Types and strategy in plain terms
Type follows from which centres are defined and how they connect to the throat. Generators and manifesting generators have a defined sacral centre and live by response. Projectors have neither a sacral nor a motor connected to the throat, and they work through invitation.
Manifestors have a motor to the throat and can initiate on their own, with informing as their strategy. Reflectors have no defined centres at all and need a full lunar cycle for important decisions. Strategy does not restrict you, it saves the energy otherwise spent fighting your own mechanics.

Authority: how decisions get made
Authority is the inner mechanism worth trusting at the moment of choice. Emotional authority means there simply is no correct answer in the moment: you wait out the wave and look at the question from another point of the emotional cycle.
Sacral authority answers immediately and physically, splenic authority answers quietly and only once. The mind is nobody's authority in Human Design: it analyses well, just not for its own decisions.

Start with type, strategy and authority and live with them for a few weeks before diving into gates and channels. That is the base layer, and it produces the most visible change in daily life.
After that the open centres are worth a look: they are where a person most often absorbs what belongs to others and pressures themselves with borrowed expectations. The knowledge base covers every centre, channel and gate, so the bodygraph can be read in detail without paid consultations.
