Ingression

Ingress is the moment when a planet enters a new zodiac sign. The chart cast for this exact second is considered to describe the period while the planet remains in the sign.

The significance of ingress depends on the planet's speed. The Moon changes sign every 2.3 days, so its ingresses are minor. Jupiter enters a sign once a year, Saturn once every 2.5 years, and Pluto once every decade.

Cardinal Ingresses

The entry of the Sun into cardinal signs holds a special role: 0 degrees Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn. These four points correspond to equinoxes and solstices and define the quarterly charts of the year in mundane astrology.

Spring ingress chart, cast for the capital of the country, is traditionally read as a forecast for the year. The other three give the quarters within it.

Retrograde Returns

A planet entering a sign shortly before a station often turns retrograde and re-enters the sign. This creates three entry dates instead of one, spanning several months.

For this forecast, it means that the theme of the new sign is announced, then temporarily folded and finally returns. The last, direct ingress is usually considered the working one.

How to Read Ingress Chart

Reads the same as natal: angles, ruler of the ascendant, position of the planet itself that is entering. The difference is that houses represent areas of life of a country or community, not a person.

The most informative position of an incoming planet relative to the angles of the chart. If it is near the Ascendant or Midheaven, the theme of the period will be noticeable, if in the closed houses, it will pass in the background.

Method boundaries

Ingression describes the general period and is not personalized. For a specific person, it only makes sense when the ingress degree falls on their natal points.

Additionally, the ingress chart is valid for the city it is calculated for. A forecast for another country requires a new chart for its capital, not a transfer of conclusions.
