Overview

Harmonics reveal hidden patterns in the natal chart by multiplying all planet positions by a harmonic number. Each harmonic emphasizes different aspects of the chart - relationships (H5, H7), career (H10), spiritual patterns (H9/Navamsa), and more. AstroWay calculates harmonics instantly in the browser with full aspect analysis for each harmonic.

Harmonic Charts (H2–H36)

Select any harmonic from H2 to H36: - Side-by-side view: natal chart alongside the harmonic chart - Harmonic planet positions table with natal comparison - Full aspect analysis for the harmonic chart - Key harmonics: H4 (squares), H5 (quintiles), H7 (septiles), H9 (Navamsa), H12 (semisextiles) Switch between harmonics instantly - all calculations update in real time.

Draconic Chart

The draconic chart shifts the zodiac so that 0° Aries aligns with the True North Node: - Reveals soul-level or karmic patterns - Compare tropical and draconic positions side by side - Full aspect analysis for the draconic chart - Optional house transformation

Planetary Hours

Calculate Chaldean planetary hours for any date and location: - Day and night hours with ruling planet - Sunrise and sunset times - Current hour highlighted - Day ruler based on the day of the week - Navigate between days easily

Ingresses & Cycles

Track planet movements: - Ingress table - when each planet enters a new sign - Seasonal charts - Spring equinox, Summer solstice, Autumn equinox, Winter solstice - Retrograde entries marked - Planet cycles - conjunctions of outer planets (Jupiter-Saturn, etc.) Set any year range and calculate ingresses for all planets.

Harmonics

The harmonic chart is constructed by multiplying the longitude of each planet by the harmonic number and then reducing it to the circle. In the fifth harmonic, a planet at 12 degrees Aries becomes 60 degrees, i.e., 0 degrees Gemini.

The essence of the operation is that an aspect that is a multiple of the harmonic number is converted into a conjunction. In the 5th harmonic, quintiles become conjunctions; in the 7th, septiles; in the 9th, noviles. Weak and unnoticeable configurations in the natal chart become visible.

Harmonics and Their Meanings

The tradition was proposed by John Addey and is based on numerical symbolism. The 5th harmonic shows talent and skill, the 7th inspiration and idealization, the 9th maturity and fruition, the 4th work and effort, the 10th career and social realization.

Harmonic charts are read the same way as natal charts: look for conjunctions, stelliums, and the tightest configurations. A single tight planetary group in the 5th harmonic says more than a dozen scattered aspects.

  • H4 and H8: effort, work, overcoming
  • H5: talent, skill, form
  • H7: inspiration, idealization, creative urge
  • H9: maturity, result, in Vedic tradition navamsa

Practical limits of the method

Harmonics are sensitive to birth time. An error of four minutes shifts the chart by about one degree, and in the 36th harmonic, that degree becomes 36 degrees, resulting in a different chart.

Therefore, high harmonics only make sense for rectified or documented birth times. For a chart based on relatives' words, it's safe to work with harmonics up to the 9th; anything higher is speculative.
