What the house governs
The ninth house is the level at which separate facts assemble into a picture of the world: convictions, faith, higher education, teaching, law. Long journeys and foreign cultures belong here too, because they do to a worldview what study does.
How to read it in a chart
Jupiter and the ruler of the ninth house show what a person leans on when they have to decide what is right. Planets here describe the character of their convictions, and Saturn in the ninth is often about system and academic rigour rather than narrowness.
The axis of the house
The 9-3 axis is meaning and data. The ninth house builds generalisations, the third supplies the material. The ninth without the third gives convictions unchecked by facts, the third without the ninth an endless stream of information without conclusions.
Common reading mistakes
The ninth house is often reduced to travel and closed there. Travel is a consequence here, not the substance. The second mistake is reading it as a guarantee of education: the house describes the attitude to knowledge, not a diploma.
Houses depend on the exact time of birth: an error of a quarter of an hour shifts the cusps by a few degrees, an error of two hours moves a planet into the neighbouring house. Without a birth time it is correct to read only the planets by sign.
