Houses divide the chart not by sign but by the daily rotation of the Earth: the point rising at the moment of birth sets the start of the first house, and the circle is then divided into twelve areas of life. The sign answers the question how, the house answers where. Below are all twelve: what each one governs, which sign and ruler are natural to it, and what reading a house together with its opposite adds.

First house: the self, entering contact, beginnings
Aries · Angular house
House 2
Second house: own resources, money, values
Taurus · Succedent house
House 3
Third house: the near circle, learning, speech
Gemini · Cadent house
House 4
Fourth house: home, roots, private base

House 5
Fifth house: creativity, children, play, romance

House 12
Twelfth house: the hidden, solitude, letting go
Pisces · Cadent house
Houses depend on the exact time of birth: an error of a quarter of an hour shifts the cusps by a few degrees, an error of two hours moves a planet into the neighbouring house. Without a birth time it is correct to read only the planets by sign.
