Arabic Parts 1

Overview

635 Arabic lots from 7 collections - Fortune, Spirit, planetary and thematic lots.

What is a Zodiac Sign and How It's Calculated

Jerebok is a derived point in the chart, obtained by adding and subtracting longitudes. The general form is simple: the distance between two significant points is added to the ascendant, so Jerebok always depends on the birth time.

Arabic terms emerged historically, though the technique is older: lots were described in Hellenistic sources, and Arabic authors systematized them and greatly expanded the list.

  • The formula always relies on the Ascendant and two other points.
  • The ephemeris moves approximately 1 degree every 4 minutes of birth time.
  • Al-Biruni cites over 90 lots, later lists exceed 100.

Fortune's Lottery and Day-Night Formula

The main lottery of tradition is calculated differently during the day and at night. During the day, it is the Ascendant plus the Moon minus the Sun; at night, it is the Ascendant plus the Sun minus the Moon. The daytime chart is considered if the Sun is above the horizon.

Ignoring this rule is a common mistake: in a nocturnal chart, the formula without permutation gives a point that is a mirror image of the correct one relative to the Ascendant, i.e., a completely different house.

  • Day: ascendant plus Moon minus Sun
  • Night: ascendant plus Sun minus Moon
  • Sect is determined by the position of the Sun relative to the horizon
  • The Spirit Point is calculated by the mirror formula relative to the Part of Fortune

Lot Ruler

A lunar node by itself is an empty point: it has neither speed nor dignity. Its ruler works primarily, that is, the planet that rules the sign in which the lunar node stands.

Therefore, the sequence of analysis is: find the horoscope, determine the house and sign, move to the ruler and see its condition. Without this step, interpretation reduces to a list of degrees.

  • The House of Lots indicates the sphere, the ruler shows the condition of the matter.
  • Aspects from planets to the Ascendant are considered, aspects from the Ascendant to planets are not.
  • The orb for lots is narrow, within 1 degree

Commonly Used Zodiac Signs

Despite hundreds of formulas in the lists, about a dozen consistently work in practice. These are Fortune, Spirit, Eros, Necessity, Courage, Victory, Nemesis from the Hellenistic core, plus thematic ones: marriage, children, father, mother.

The rest of the list consists mainly of later combinations without a separate tradition of interpretation. They can be used, but conclusions should not be based on them.

  • The seven Hellenistic lots have the deepest tradition of interpretation.
  • Themed dice are tied to the corresponding house.
  • Late entries in the lists often lack a source for interpretation.

Using in forecasts

Lots move with the Ascendant, so in progressions and directions they shift by about 1 degree per year. This makes them convenient for dating: a directional conjunction of a planet with a lot gives a specific year.

In profections and solar returns, the lot is recalculated on a new chart rather than transferred from the natal chart. Mixing the two approaches yields nonsensical results.

  • In directions, the significator moves approximately 1 degree per year.
  • In the Solar Return calculator, the zodiac sign is calculated using the Solar Return formula.
  • Transit through Sagittarius without involving its ruler is of little significance
