Saturn Square Neptune

The square of Saturn: The rungs of the evolutionary ladder are not carpeted with a runner. The Saturn square presents a person with a deep problem in the spheres of the planet’s influence: the need for profound introspection, the cultivation of inner discipline, and the search for truth through silent concentration. The issue lies in the fact that, on one hand, the person is drawn to the planetary principle, eager to understand and master it deeply, while on the other, attempts at such study encounter the strongest resistance—both external and internal. The learning process itself proves extremely difficult, requiring far more concentration and effort than the person currently possesses, and chaotic external and internal forces constantly pull them away from it. For instance, a Venus–Saturn square with a strong Saturn may (at a low level) manifest as rigidity and crudeness in social contacts and love, while a strong Venus could instead produce frivolity and indiscrimination in relationships (especially if the square falls in a mutable cross). In either case, the person’s heart remains frozen. The Saturn square makes the natural expression of the planetary principle impossible. Here, the person must act with wisdom and strict adherence to their karmic program, which, unfortunately, is particularly subtle and winding at this point. It is as if they were asked to carve wood with an axe or dance a ballroom dance in a diving suit. When they begin, every movement is clumsy, crude, and unsatisfactory from any perspective, yet the desire to learn and ambition may be intense. Much depends on the person’s inner honesty and their overall drive to actualize themselves and participate in the evolutionary process (as they understand it). Working through the Saturn square grants the person subtlety, wisdom, and the ability to recognize and nurture latent talents in others—abilities that may not yet be visible to anyone else. The square of Neptune: One must possess a great deal of inner honesty to recognize its absence in oneself. This is a difficult aspect. The Neptune square fosters distorted meditations, often of a lower order, an inexplicable attraction to the planetary principle, and at the same time, a poor understanding of it—more precisely, a false understanding, illusions, and delusions that are hard for the person to believe and even harder to abandon. Neptune deceives the person, who in turn deceives the world and themselves, then catches glimpses of this deception and stops trusting—just in case—anything at all, including themselves, though not for long (or rather, only partially), after which they deceive themselves and the world again, and the world deceives them in return. This can lead to despair, vice, or, conversely, awaken a higher aspiration and call the person to God. The outcome is hard to predict, but in any case, the person must remain vigilant and never assume that a conquered position is permanently secured. In this case, the lower nature may feed on filthy meditations (alcohol, drugs, family scandals, etc.), and reforming it will not be easy. A Neptune–Saturn square can produce a perverse enjoyment of one’s own inability to act, and the person may linger in a cycle: a brief, concentrated effort ending in nothingness—a prolonged meditation on their own worthlessness, with a masochistic undertone, likely dragging in close relatives and a psychoanalyst. (In general, squares involving higher planets are aspects of black teachers, in this case with a mystical and psychological slant.) Karmically, this aspect signifies the need to work through self-deception and lower meditations ("vice") through the lens of the planetary principle, whose activation makes the corresponding subconscious programs strikingly clear. This work is complex and requires abandoning all lower meditations (including sweet self-accusations) and engaging in consistent, honest, constructive effort in the areas governed by the planet. Involving Pluto and, to some extent, working through Saturn can help. At a high level, the person may grasp the most subtle expressions of the planetary principle and its connection to the principle of cosmic love as it manifests in external reality and the souls of individuals, which could make them a mystic, preacher, or saint. Yet the irrational sense of guilt toward the world in the spheres of the planet will never fully leave them.

Such a person is either skilled, capable, and creative, or completely devoid of any professional pretensions or creative ambitions. They tend to take on the blame and debts of others. They must overcome their fear of failure, face competition, and learn to love themselves. They are talented and possess many abilities in finance and the arts. They have great difficulty distinguishing true friends from those who intend to exploit them. They are always and everywhere searching for the ideal partner. Moreover, they often prefer to remain alone rather than renounce their ideal and compromise. Emotionally, they always experience some tension and depression, which they must consciously overcome. Their life is always full of worries and troubles in both their personal and professional spheres. Sometimes they experience the secret hostility of opponents who act immorally and vindictively. They are also prone to deception and forgery. They are characterized by strange erotic predilections and the mental anguish associated with them. Their character is generally unbalanced, and sometimes downright careless. Such people often suffer from morbid fears and phobic neuroses. This repels, many avoid them, from which comes loneliness and self-pity, leading to psychoses.

They may become victims of "evil eye": they should keep away from psychics, astrologers, and experiments with narcotics. Confusion before any practical duties, before a career. Even with intensified work, they do not become experts in their field. Often cunning, they engage in unscrupulous activities for the sake of achieving their goals. Frequently scandals, intrigues. Unyielding, dogmatic, tyrannical. Often - a martyr complex (a way to win people's sympathy). Many avoid them, hence - loneliness, self-pity, psychoses.

The more disciplined side of you has no time for dreams, visions, and other-worldly stuff. You ignore anything that is not tied down and practical. And yet, all this spiritual stuff has a way of intruding into your real world. You come up against it again and again. You can't live with it, and you can't live without it. It seems you feel that dreams and a more "ideal" life must take a back seat to reality and the (sometimes) drudgery of routine. You keep finding yourself looking out the window.
