Mercury Opposition Neptune

Mercury opposition: Before you speak, think—will your words insult your own thought? An opposition to Mercury creates a tension between the planetary principle and rational thinking. It should not be assumed that a strong Mercury in the chart grants intelligence; the latter is determined more by the general evolutionary level, while Mercury’s role depends on its integration rather than aspects. At a low level of integration, a dominant Mercury suppresses the planetary principle with mental clichés, distorting and mutilating it mercilessly. For example, in a Mercury–Moon opposition, an emphasis on Mercury leads a person to think strictly according to social clichés: to be healthy and happy, one must do morning exercises, marry at twenty, have three children, and work without strain—and they live, considering themselves happy or unhappy based on formal conformity to this pattern, utterly unable to hear the true voice of their own needs, even the most primitive ones. This continues unless the Moon decisively shifts the main emphasis in the opposition, fully overriding Mercury—or rather, subordinating it—allowing only those thoughts the Moon itself generates to enter the mind. Then, a person may become trapped in obsessive thoughts about food or primitive but sweet sexuality, sharply lowering their evolutionary level of behavior or leading to severe frustrations, neuroses, or depression. Here, integration proceeds by clarifying the role of thought in the expression of the planetary principle, which should be guided by thought in general but not controlled in every detail, let alone replaced by crude mental schemas. On the other hand, thought can also assist in developing new directions and materializing the planetary principle, and it should not become its obedient servant—a lesson one often learns the hard way when untangling the unimaginable chaos that arises after a prolonged period of the planetary principle dominating over the Mercurial one. At a high level of integration, the planetary principle gains a stable channel into the mental plane, and the person receives precisely the thoughts needed to develop that principle. This feeling of thought and language being obedient is unmistakable; in relevant situations, it provides an absolute sense of self-confidence (others may comment on the evident and indisputable power of talent, though it would be more accurate to speak of the stability of a well-integrated opposition). Neptune opposition: A lie is never a condiment—it is always the main course. At a low level, a Neptune opposition raises the issue of external and internal deception and self-deception in the spheres governed by the planet, along with the theme of lower meditations—that is, the vices ruled by the planet. By emphasizing Neptune, a person may derive pleasure from the lowest expressions of the planetary principle in the external world, and the self-deception can be so profound that they do not even recognize their involvement in something reprehensible, unworthy, or immoral. Conversely, by emphasizing the planetary principle, the person encounters deception and misunderstanding in the outside world and genuinely wonders what is wrong, unaware that internal dishonesty, self-deception, and the deception of others create a cloud of lower-octave Neptune around them. The world begins to deceive them through individuals and through fate itself. For example, in a Mars–Neptune opposition (a very dangerous aspect at a low level), a person may inwardly enjoy any external activity, especially aggression, completely oblivious to its destructive consequences for the world and others. Soon, the situation shifts slightly, and aggression from the external world turns back on them, while Neptune produces an effect of utter incomprehension, resentment, and injustice—yet all with a sickly sweet aftertaste of lower Neptunian meditation of a masochistic kind. Then (oh horror!) the emphasis of the opposition flips, distorting external reality: the person loses all understanding of others, while internally, destructive Martian self-aggression takes hold, possibly accompanied by acute guilt and remorse that the external world categorically fails to understand or accept. Then the emphasis shifts again... Integration here is complex, as it demands profound and intimate changes in a person’s relationship to the planetary principle: they must learn to understand and love it and, in the relevant spheres, be honest with themselves and the outside world—at least by not lying outright. For instance, a Neptune opposition to the Ascendant (i.e., Neptune conjunct the Descendant) requires a person to stop lying to their partners and open enemies (to which they are strongly inclined), or they will never escape the cloud of universal deceit and false positions. At a high level of integration, the person gains a stable, subtle, and deep understanding of the planetary principle, the ability to engage in elevated meditations in its spheres, and the capacity to convey these carefully and gently to others.

These people have an unrealistic approach to love and marriage, and tend to view life through rose-colored glasses. They are creative, sensitive, dreamy, and capable of penetrating to the core of things. At the same time, they are characterized by naivety, cunning, and poor concentration. They tend to scatter their attention and efforts and are constantly wary of competition from more successful colleagues. They are drawn to literature, music, dance, fine arts, theater, as well as humanitarian and charitable programs. Many consider these people impractical, somewhat sleepy, easily deceived, and overly sensual. They tend to refuse to accept reality. They are characterized by a tendency toward manic states and a lack of consistency in their work and life plans. They often exhibit strange forgetfulness and an inexplicable inconsistency in relationships. They are prone to depressed moods, carelessness in fulfilling obligations, and difficulties in both business and intimate relationships. These mystically inclined people almost directly perceive the unconscious impulses of others, effectively identifying with them. Their subconscious overly interferes with their rational minds, causing them to be unintentionally forgetful and involuntarily unreliable. Their thoughts are particularly confused when it comes to details and subtleties. Often, such people are unexpectedly indiscreet, leading to the spilling of others' secrets. Their positions are extremely subjective, and their mystical state of mind reaches the point where others simply fail to understand them. However, they themselves almost always understand the motives of others perfectly, primarily due to their ability to unconsciously identify with them. They are able to use this latter ability both for personal gain and for the benefit of others.

Intuition, the ability to discern people's thoughts and motives. Unconscious telepathy can lead to manipulation, but not always malicious; it's simply a game in which the opponent loses. If they were sincere and honest, they would succeed, but as it is, they ruin everything with intrigue, which arouses people's suspicion. If other factors indicate naivety and a lack of insight, they are incompetent in understanding people, leading to unclear relationships, and people becoming victims of deception. Care should be taken not to reveal secrets. Their sensitivity prevents them from noticing environmental influences, and they are easily led to forget their responsibilities. They have difficulty controlling their imagination, especially when it comes to others.

Your child has vivid dreams and a sensitive intuition. They are likely to be very musical, poetic, and enjoy dancing and photography. They may be scattered and naive, cunning and unreliable. They may try to avoid unpleasant situations through imagination and sometimes deception. Parents should be aware that the sweet, incredible stories their child tells at five years old may create the impression that they can fabricate and lie, and if not corrected in time, this behavior may continue. Parents should teach their child to tell the truth when it comes to real events.

Weak memory, absent-mindedness, forgetfulness, loss, self-absorption, subjective judgment, obsessive thoughts, melodies, insomnia, a tendency toward self-deception and intrigue; impracticality, nervousness, anxiety, mania, whims, susceptibility to slander and deception; an uncertain, unclear situation, inability to make decisions. Positive side: psychological sensitivity, interest in psychoanalysis, keen attention to psychological subtleties, rich associations, and a rich imagination.

Mystical and other-worldly thoughts are not for you. You are painstaking in your avoidance of all that is transcendental and smacks of the next world. You find yourself in conversations (and probably arguments) on these subjects more often than not. For yourself, you go out of your way to be clear-headed and practical and have little tolerance for the stuff of imagination and dreams. Your ideal world is right here, and any other thoughts are beside the point.

Intuition, the ability to recognize people's thoughts and motives. Unconscious "telepathy" can lead to fraud, but this is not always malicious intent, rather a game. However, these true and apparent intrigues spoil everything: it arouses suspicion among people. Secrets are poorly kept. With a bad horoscope, they themselves become victims of deception.
