The square of Saturn: The steps of the evolutionary ladder are not carpeted. In either case, the heart remains frozen. The Saturn square makes the natural expression of the planetary principle impossible. Here, wisdom and strict adherence to the karmic program are required—but the program, unfortunately, is exceedingly subtle and convoluted at this point. It is as if the person were asked to carve wood with an axe or dance a ballroom waltz in a diving suit. Every movement feels clumsy, crude, and unsatisfactory from any perspective, yet the desire to learn and ambition may burn intensely. Working through the Saturn square grants the person, in the spheres of the planet’s influence, refinement, wisdom, and the ability to recognize and nurture latent talents in others before they are visible to anyone else. The square of Pluto: Angelic wings grow where the cross of fate has chafed. The Pluto square creates a sense of discomfort for the person regarding the sacrifices the fate demands in the planet’s sphere—at least, that is how it appears to them. They must reconcile themselves to the idea that these sacrifices will come at an inopportune moment and carry unpleasant, seemingly unnecessary consequences. Such is the nature of this karmic program, though thankfully, it does not always reach such extremes. The person’s experience of the planetary principle in the external world will feel deeply unsatisfactory, sparking a desire to impose order upon it—demanding power to do so. Yet the karmic design is precisely the opposite: to bring clarity and order to the planetary principle within the person’s inner world and subconscious, requiring mastery over instincts and lower impulses tied to the planet. Until this is realized, the person will repeatedly face harsh sacrifices and fateful blows, which will pursue them in direct proportion to how much they provoke it—whether consciously or unconsciously, intentionally or accidentally, from the best or worst of motives. A key aspect of this square is that in the planet’s domain, the person acts like a magnifying glass, sharply exposing even the smallest imperfections and flaws—both in themselves and others. This aspect offers immense potential for inner growth and purification but also produces worldly "black teachers" of a dictatorial type, who eradicate low and mediocre expressions of the planetary principle in the external world through power, fire, and sword, leaving only the most refined (which go unnoticed) or, at worst, a wasteland. At a moderate level, the behavior is marked by harshness, elements of domineering, and a nihilistic attitude toward others, combined with a drive to master the planetary principle oneself. Internally, the person yearns to present the world with a model of perfection—but it never quite works out, or (in the person’s view) the world simply isn’t ready and thus cannot recognize the perfection offered to it.

If such a person learns to plan their life, they can achieve success in any field of endeavor. However, due to deep emotional insecurity, they will never admit that others know more than they do.
