Square of the Moon: One must distinguish between people whose soul is asleep and those whose soul has already departed. The Moon square creates profound internal difficulties tied to the planetary principle, especially in its perception. For example, the Moon-Mars square gives a sense of the external world’s brutality and aggression in situations where it is not remotely apparent, and conversely, the person may be aggressive and cruel without even realizing it. The Neptune square distorts meditations, often of a lower order, while simultaneously making the planetary principle irresistibly attractive to the person—yet they understand it poorly, or rather, falsely, clinging to illusions and delusions they find hard to believe, let alone relinquish. Karmically, this aspect demands working through the themes of self-deception and lower meditations ("vice") through the lens of the planetary principle, whose inclusion makes the corresponding subconscious programs strikingly clear. This work is arduous, requiring the abandonment of all lower meditations (including sweet self-accusations) and sustained, honest, constructive effort in the areas governed by the planet. Involving Pluto—and to some extent working through Saturn—can help. At a high level, the person grasps the subtlest expressions of the planetary principle and its connection to the principle of cosmic love as it manifests in external reality and the souls of others, which can make them a mystic, preacher, or saint—but they will never rid themselves of the irrational sense of guilt toward the world in the spheres of the planet.

Due to the inability to distinguish reality from illusions, such a person often enters into complicated and complex emotional relationships.
