Mercury opposition: Before you speak, think—will your words insult your thought? An opposition to Mercury creates a problem of correlating the planet’s principle with rational thinking. One should not assume that a strong Mercury in the nativity grants intelligence; the latter is determined more by the general evolutionary level, while Mercury’s influence depends on its integration rather than aspects. At a high level, the planetary principle gains a stable channel into the mental plane, and the person receives precisely the thoughts they need to develop the planetary principle. This feeling of thought and language being obedient cannot be mistaken for anything else; in relevant situations, it grants an absolute sense of self-assurance (others begin to speak of an obvious and indisputable force of talent, though it would be more accurate to say it stems from the stability of a well-integrated opposition). For example, a Jupiter–Venus opposition may produce a talented and highly erudite art critic, but at a low level of integration, the person will only believe (yet with absolute inner conviction) that they have a brilliant grasp of art (and love), constantly airing their opinions with aplomb and just as constantly making fools of themselves—though this may trouble them little. (A pronounced Jupiter opposition, such as to a stellium, can, alongside great abilities and strong patrons, yield complete blindness to one’s own grandeur, insane self-conceit, and total lack of self-criticism.) An emphasis on the planet, conversely, activates diverse external opportunities to realize its principle—a great temptation for the person, though integration lies in expanding internal capacities. Thus, with Venus opposing Jupiter and an emphasis on Venus, the choice may present itself as either external fame, exhibitions, public and international activity, or a shift in creative channel (mastered style or technique) and the development of something new. A Saturn–Jupiter opposition may, at some point, force the person to choose between rigid control over numerous followers or the cultivation and mastery of vast regions of inner space. Life may require both, but it is crucial not to confuse the order of these life stages.

They are easily confused, they cannot logically prove their point of view in cross-examination, their memory changes due to stress. They cannot keep secrets, reveal them at the most inopportune moment.

Opposition, square: lack of strict thinking, laziness, jesting. Tendency to boast about one's imaginary abilities and possibilities, bluffing, habit of throwing dust in people's eyes. In some cases, a person may elevate someone else's lie, mistakenly taking it for truth, in others, they intentionally allow this substitution in order to gain power. When the time comes to reap the fruits of their prudence, they are always offended and unsatisfied.
