Type in Human Design is not decided by character or by choice but by which centers of the bodygraph came out defined. That makes the share of each type something you can compute rather than repeat from someone else's site. So we computed it: 12,000 bodygraphs over a uniform sample of birth moments between 1940 and 2015.
How many people of each type
- Generator: 35.7%
- Manifesting Generator: 32.6%
- Projector: 21.7%
- Manifestor: 9.0%
- Reflector: 0.93%
The two Generator types together come to 68.3%, and that number is no accident: it matches exactly the share of charts with a defined Sacral. The Sacral is the criterion. If it is coloured in, the type is a Generator variant, and the only remaining question is whether the Sacral has a direct connection to the Throat. If it does, Manifesting Generator; if not, Generator.
A Reflector turns up roughly once in every hundred and seven charts. That is someone with none of the nine centers defined.
How type follows from the bodygraph
The rule is short and mechanical, with no interpretation in it at all.
- No center defined: Reflector.
- Sacral defined, no connection to the Throat: Generator.
- Sacral defined, connected to the Throat: Manifesting Generator.
- Sacral undefined, a motor center connected to the Throat: Manifestor.
- Sacral undefined, no motor connection to the Throat: Projector.
That explains why there are more than twice as many Projectors as Manifestors. Both lack a defined Sacral, which covers about a third of people. But becoming a Manifestor also requires a motor connection to the Throat, and that second condition filters out most of them.
Type and inner authority
Type says how a person engages with the world; authority says what they decide with. They are different things, and within one type the authority varies. Here is how it fell out in the sample.
- Generators: Sacral 53.7%, Emotional 46.3%
- Manifesting Generators: Emotional 56.6%, Sacral 43.4%
- Projectors: Emotional 42.7%, Splenic 33.6%, Self-Projected 12.9%, Mental 9.1%, Ego Projected 1.7%
- Manifestors: Emotional 71.2%, Splenic 18.8%, Ego Manifested 8.2%, Ego Projected 1.8%
- Reflectors: Lunar, always
The headline number here is a different one: 50.7% of all people have emotional authority regardless of type. Exactly half of humanity is directly addressed by the standard advice to wait out the wave, and the other half is not. It is the most common authority in every type except plain Generators.
What each type means in practice
Generator has steady life force and responds to what already exists. The mechanism is response, not initiative. Work that produces no response gets dragged along on willpower until it burns out.
Manifesting Generator is the same Sacral plus a direct line to the Throat. Faster, often skipping steps and coming back to finish them. The sign of being on track is a pace nobody has to push.
Projector has no consistent Sacral energy, and the strength lies in seeing systems and people. Works through invitation, because unasked advice bounces off even when it is correct.
Manifestor is the only type able to start on its own, with no outside push. The price is resistance from other people, and it is removed by a single move: inform before starting.
Reflector has no stable center at all and mirrors the environment completely. A full lunar cycle is needed for an important decision, along with a very deliberate choice of place and company.
